From the moment I observed the ripple effect in the hospital, where expected events impacted related elements unintentionally, I have been fascinated by complex systems. Authors, including Jean Boulton, Scott E. Page, and Donella Meadows, connected the words to my observations. The focus on systems grew from the observations in the hospital to complex systems in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Systems thinking’ for me is using systems theories as a lens for an overarching world view. It is not ‘a method’, nor is it limited to specific methods or tools. The view is not bounded by the word ’thinking’, as it is a holistic approach translating the observations into action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But yes, I do think a lot about the world as a system, the characteristics of complex systems, and the impact of influences on systems’ elements. Most specifically, the impact of technology in systems. In my blog section, I will share my thoughts and views. And because there is so much more to explore and many more perspectives, other perspectives are welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My background and skills include product design & engineering, ergonomics and usability, research and education. I am also working on ideas for systems thinking education. Combined with my interest in creating (tangible) materials, I also work on a physical tool for systems thinking. Hopefully, this can help in understanding the systems’ view, because we need more systems thinkers, do-ers, see-ers, and speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all connections in systems, I also like to ‘disconnect’. I love the endless views, watching the forces of nature, view of the rain approaching, mountains being covered by mist, white snow over the dark colours of fall, and sun on waterfalls. So, an occasional photo of Iceland can be expected on this website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
